Nashville Superspeedway - Jan 22 - Great Weather Forecasted

Following the recent "global warming" weather we've all experienced over the last week with record snowfalls, we wanted to address any concerns that some of you might have about the upcoming track day on January 22. First, we just checked with Nashville Superspeedway about the condition of the track and as of today it is clear and good to go.

Second, the weather forecast for Nashville for this coming week promises perfect conditions with highs in the low to mid 40's and no precipitation of any kind forecasted after Tuesday. So, if you have been waiting for the green light to go ahead and sign up, now is the time! With sunny skies and temps in the 40's we couldn't ask for better conditions to see our cars rocket around the track.

Here is the link to sign up: http://tracksunlimited.net/events/jan2011nsh/

Hope to see you at the track and don't forget that our schedule will give you over 3 hours of track time on Saturday!

God Bless

ASPHALT VENTURES

Hello everyone, and another Happy New Year to you all!

Over the last few weeks, and most of December, we've been diligently (for the most part) working on updating not only the look of Asphalt Ventures, but also the message.  And of course we've been negotiating dates with various tracks, looking at what we know of the overall schedule of events taking shape for 2011 and trying to work AV events in there that work for all of us.  I think we've done a pretty good job.

I certainly didn't plan on it being two weeks into January before getting this out to everyone, so I hope the few tidbits of info about the schedule that we did release was helpful.

I have officially opened registration for our first event of 2011... March 5th & 6th at NCCAR. You can read about the details and what it entails here: http://msreg.us/NCCARmarch

Of course, I posted an event on our facebook page as well, so if you're on FB, check it out, and let others know that you'll be there!  We're excited to be going back to NCCAR and VIR, and we're especially excited about two new things for 2011... our first Karting event (June 17th at CMP just before the THSCC school) and two (hopefully) events at the new (currently under construction) Atlanta Motorsports Park. Definitely some fun stuff coming up, we sincerely hope you can join us.

So when you get a minute, check out the new & improved www.asphaltventures.com

Thank you!!

TARHEEL SPORTS CAR CLUB AND TRIANGLE Z CLUB

Greetings and Happy Holidays! As the season winds down, we wanted to take an opportunity to thank all of you that came out and supported the THSCC/TZC HPDE and Performance Chassis Time Trial Series in 2010.  With the exception of our February event being canceled due to weather, we had another successful year with relatively few incidents and good attendance.  We pride ourselves in running some of the best events on the east coast and we couldn’t do it without the support of our membership.

Looking forward to 2011, the staff has been very busy putting together another exciting schedule.  We have two exciting changes for next year that put us in position for another strong season.  The first one is that our VIR-F date has been moved from February to September, and a three day weekend at that.  No more worries of snow covered asphalt!  The second change is the addition of an event at the new NC Center for Automotive Research (NC CAR) in Garysburg, NC (just south of the NC/VA border off of I-95).  Here is the full schedule.

VIR-N – April 2-3, 2011

NC CAR – May 14-15, 2011

CMP – June 18-19, 2011

VIR-Full – September 9-11, 2011

CMP – October 15-16, 2011

Please mark you calendars now so you don’t miss any of these seat time opportunities.  Registration is now open for the April event at VIR-N so go ahead and get signed up early.  Note: Even though registration requires you to enter your credit card, you won’t be charged until February 15 for this event.  Also, keep an eye out both on motorsportsreg.com as well as our website for our Annual Tech dates.  The first one will be at Performance Chassis sometime in February.  More info to follow.

One other important change to note for next year is for Time Trials drivers.  Effective 2011, we will require the use of an approved HEAD & NECK RESTRAINT DEVICE.  Most brands currently marketed will be accepted.  This does not apply to HPDE students, only those participating in the Time Trial.

Feel free to e-mail us with any questions.

We look forward to seeing one in 2011.  For now, we wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season.

MID-ATLANTIC ALFA ROMEO CLUB hopes that you all had a great holiday season.

We’ve been gratified by the numerous inquiries that we’ve received regarding our plans for a 2011 edition of our Small-Bore Driving School.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to stage a 2011 Small-Bore event at VIR in conjunction with our longtime partners Peter Krause & VSCCA.

In short, the 2011 Grand Am Road Racing series’ Bosch 250 event at VIR happened to fall on the mid-May weekend that traditionally hosted the MAARC/VSCCA event.  Given that the Bosch 250 is VIR’s biggest spectator event, VIR quite understandably needed to move the MAARC/VSCCA event to another weekend in VIR’s crowded schedule.  As (bad) luck would have it, the available alternative mid-June weekend was in direct conflict with an already-scheduled HPDE event, at CMP, staged by our good friends at the Triangle Z Club / Tarheel Sports Car Club.  Since MAARC and TZC/THSCC share many of the same students & instructors, staging conflicting events seemed like a recipe for a pair of unsuccessful events.  So, we reluctantly bowed out of the weekend with VSCCA.

We’ve had a long and successful relationship with Peter Krause & VSCCA and hope to join them again for a future event at VIR.  In the meantime, we are looking at other venues as possible sites for a 2011 Small-Bore Driving School.  We’ll let you know if we’re able to cook up a 2011 event in the Laid Back Pasta Eater tradition.

Thanks very much for your support and we hope to see you at the track this year.

Bert Neily on behalf of the Track Committee
Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club
